As friends arrive, they bring food too.

Even with all the food, us kids aren’t supposed to eat yet, so we go play games.
Day 12:
We play tag and Marco Polo while the adults talk.
Day 13:
We also sneak in and look at the pile of fireworks in the garage.
Day 14:
Dad says they’re for after dinner when it’s dark outside.
Day 15:
This is my dog, Gus, the best dog in the world.
Day 16:
But he doesn’t like fireworks so we have to make sure he’s safe.
Day 17:
When it’s time, I take him inside.
Day 18:
He has his blanket and his pillow and his favorite toy, Dusty.
Day 19:
Mom makes sure his water and food bowls are full.
Day 20:
Back outside, we move our chairs to the front of the house.
Day 21:
Dad brings out the wheelbarrow with all the fireworks.
Day 22:
I chase my brother with a sparkler as my cousin chases me.
Day 23:
The adults talk while we play.
Day 24:
Finally we use up all of the sparklers.
Day 25:
Mom passes out blankets for everyone who doesn’t already have one.
Day 26:
Dad and my uncle start the big show.
Day 27:
Each firework is bigger than the last.
Day 28:
Soon I have to cover my ears because of how loud they’re getting.
Day 29:
My favorite fireworks are the ones that look like twinkling stars.
Day 30:
When the show is over, my brother and I help clean up the fireworks before Mom sends us off to bed.
Day 31:
It was a pretty fun 4th of July.
