At the time this is being written, June starts tomorrow. Which, considering I’m publishing this in July, tickles my funny bone. Moving on, I’m specifically focusing on my writing since I write daily now.
There’s an Amazon Prime commercial that plays while I’m writing (since I use Hulu to stream MAS*H) that I absolutely love. It’s about a security guard who is tired of whatever cheap sandwich he has. He gets inspired by a scene on The Boys to buy a grill pan (I think that’s what it is). Between that and his supportive co-worker, he gets increasingly invested in cooking, ordering different kitchen tools and equipment as a montage of him practicing plays. I want to be like that. Mainly because at the end, he walks by a restaurant or a diner that has a “cook wanted” on the window, and he walks in. That’s how I want to be.
Not that I want to be a chef, well, I do, but not as a job. But the practicing, the improving, the constant striving to be better. That was something I noticed about the past month of writing and something I’d like to change in June. I want to improve, and I seem to have hit a plateau.
So here are some things I am going to change in June as I continue writing:
- I am going to study my writing. I remember reading an article once about Ninja, the Twitch streamer, and it mentioned that he reviewed his gameplay after every session. I’ve never done something like that, certainly not since I graduated and no longer was writing academic papers. But I would like to start doing that again, and review my posts after writing the draft and publishing them.
- I will be planning out my content. As you can see from my timeline, I haven’t posted much in either May or June. I was still writing every day, and all of the content I’ve posted this month were written during those months (going back to when I started writing daily in April). But as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I haven’t been planning out my content, and I could feel the difference in my writing. So for the month of June, as I have most of July already written, I will be planning what to write and publish for after July ends, and I’ll be back to a weekly posting schedule.
- I will be adding all of my TikTok videos to the posts they belong to. Just as I have been embedding the DFP videos to their posts, I will be embedding the writing videos. How is this going to be helpful? This will be especially helpful when I start working on posts for more than one day at a time.
- I will also finish a couple of online courses I started years ago. It’s been a goal of mine to get back into completing those courses, and I think it will help me with my writing.
