You guys, I did something today that has me so excited. I went and got myself a library card! I haven’t had a public library card in over a decade! But wait, I read all of the time, why haven’t I had a card? I have all of my ebooks and the physical books I’ve collected, and I had access to the BYU library when I was a student there.
I used that privilege to the absolute fullest that I could. Some of my happiest moments on campus were when I would curl up in a chair in the library, just reading. A couple of years ago, I had meant to go to get a card at the local library where I previously lived, but that never happened for various reasons.
Today though, I did make it happen.
Walking through the main entrance doors gave me a similar thrill to when I’ve walked through the main entrances at the Disney theme parks, which should tell you a little about how much I love libraries and reading. I kid you not; the moment I set foot inside, I was already starting to plan out future visits where I could spend hours exploring and learning.
Not only did I get a library card, but I even was able to check out a book that I have wanted to read. It’s called The Soul of a Tree by George Nakashima. I first saw it mentioned in a Buzzfeed article with book recommendations from BTS’ member/leader Kim Namjoon (also known as RM).
As a side note, I love when I see book recommendations from artists and celebrities. I love seeing the types of books they’re interested in and seeing if I’ve read them before or if they are ones that I would want to read in the future. It helps broaden my reading choices in positive ways.
I was not going to check out Mr. Nakashima’s book initially.
Not that I didn’t want to, but I was going to wait until I had a few more books available. You see, I was inspired by this Medium post about the author’s reactions to reading a few of RM’s recommendations. I always am on the lookout for book challenge ideas, which is how my Presidential Book Challenge came to be two years ago.
This new potential challenge is still on the drawing board, but it appears that I will be starting sooner rather than later. I don’t mind, though, because according to the list on Buzzfeed, I haven’t read any of those books, so my interest in this challenge is definitely piqued. As I get closer to starting and/or actually starting, I will be adding the challenge to my Projects page on this site so that you can follow along with me as I read these new-to-me books.
