So earlier today, I was on Viki since I haven’t spent much time watching any Kdramas or Cdramas recently (except for one with a watch party which I will talk about tomorrow). One thing that I love about Viki is that they have a “Following” tab, and that is how I keep track of which shows I’m currently watching.
Do I have collections (that I created) to organize the dramas and variety shows I’ve finished into different categories? Sure, but the Following tab works wonders for me. Should I dedicate a post later to my love for Viki? Probably, as I just hit three years with using this streaming service, and it’s been worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY. But anyway, enough of this Q and A period.
As I was scrolling through my Following list, I spotted a show that has been in “limbo” since late February/early March: Dear M. Dear M was supposed to be a 12-episode college-romance show starring NCT’s Jaehyun. Originally it was scheduled to premiere on February 26th of this year. Alas, bullying allegations surfaced around the show’s lead actress Park Hye-Su which postponed the air date.
I still held out hope for Dear M!
I didn’t follow the scandal too much or too deep, just checking in now and then to see the latest info on the show. But I liked the premise of Dear M and was hoping that either the allegations would prove false or that there would be some other reason to allow the show to air.
Now, this is not me saying that there shouldn’t be consequences for bullying, heavens no. I feel awful for the rest of the cast and crew! I mean, the show was complete! It was ready to air! And from what I’m seeing now on Viki and in MyDramalist is not good. In fact, it’s that ‘Dear M’ has been postponed indefinitely and most likely will never see the light of day. MyDramalist has been one of my go-to sources for checking out new shows and updates because other fans work harder than me to stay up to date on all of these new dramas.
Wait, so how did I even start realizing that Dear M might never premiere?
Viki straight up deleted their ‘Dear M’ page, and since I was still following it, it remained present on my Following list. I have since unfollowed the page (the irony has not been lost on me that I had to unfollow a page that no longer existed), and I am a little sad that the audience won’t see dear M and all of the hard work that went into it.
I’m happy to say that Jaehyun (who, next to the plot, was my reason to look forward to Dear M) has a new drama on the horizon, and I’m sure that the rest of the cast and crew will get new projects to work on as well. It’s sad, but this isn’t the first time a TV show (or book or movie) gets canceled before it has a chance to meet the audience, and it certainly won’t be the last.
