Did I start today expecting that I would get more done? Yes. Did I have that expectation yesterday as well? Also yes. Did either day meet my expectations? No, not at all.
Not that I didn’t get anything done, just a lot less than I was hoping for. And because why? Tech support ate up huge chunks of time. Unfortunately, it didn’t lead to the best outcome, but it did lead to a result that I can live with.
It’s times like these when I am pretty envious of characters in tv shows and dramas that have it put together. And I know, I KNOW that what the audience is seeing is snapshots of a character’s life and that it is, in fact, fiction. I get that, and yet, I still get lost in the illusion and think, “Man, they make it look so easy.”
Honestly, changing how I planned and scheduled myself was a long time coming.
I have been trying to develop more of a routine lately because I haven’t really had one in a long, long time. I took a good look at myself a few weeks ago and realized that while I work a full-time day job and a part-time tutoring job, I spend most of my free time indulging in far too many webtoons and dramas. Now I don’t entirely regret that because I love stories, and I have spent quite lovely afternoons just catching up on webtoons or whatever drama I’m watching at the moment. But there is so much more that I want to do than only consume stories in my free time.
To try to get more organized, I turned to the Internet to find a new planner system. I have a physical planner that I use for my tutoring lessons, but I wanted to try something digital this time, one that had both an excellent mobile app and a desktop version. After a bit of research, I decided to try Todoist.
Of the several options I looked at, Todoist seemed the best fit but…
I planned to give Todoist a trial month to see if I liked it enough to commit to an annual subscription. Still, because the free plan is limited to 5 active projects, I made the jump a lot earlier than expected (I hadn’t even used it for an entire week before paying!). And so far, I really like it. I haven’t fully crammed my schedule yet with tasks, but it’s been a fairly positive experience so far. I get reminders on my phone, and I LOVE that the desktop and app sync so seamlessly.
Before now, I’ve always gotten planners with monthly and weekly or daily pages to have the best look at my schedule. While Todoist doesn’t have a more expansive month view, it does have a way to view the month as a whole, with dots marking the days with tasks scheduled. So it’s different than what I’m used to and what I had hoped to find when looking for a digital planner, but instead of missing those wider views, I find myself liking this, I guess streamlined, schedule system that Todoist uses.
Now, I haven’t fully put my schedule together, with my two jobs and life itself taking up most of my time, so I’m taking the time to add tasks and decide what fits and what doesn’t. So be sure to check back in a couple of months or so when I write a more detailed review because based on what I’ve experienced so far with Todoist, I have high hopes that I have found the best possible system for my current stage in life. I’m excited to see how much more I can create and how much more of life I can enjoy with a better routine in place.
