A Christmas Haiku Story
Day 1:
Out in the woods, just
trudging along in the snow,
my family and me.
Day 2:
The sunlight beaming
through the trees as we walked on
when we heard a sound
Day 3:
a bellow, low and
wheezing echoed in the air
as we drew closer
Day 4:
There stretched on the ground
was a full-grown reindeer
and it had hurt its leg.
Day 5:
Around its neck lay
a shiny leather collar
with the name Blitzen
Day 6:
My brother and I
look at each other and stare
No … it couldn’t be …
Day 7:
Oh my GOSH! It IS!
It IS one of the reindeer
that pulls Santa’s sleigh!
Day 8:
But wait, this can’t be
How did one of Santa’s prized
reindeer end up here?
Day 9:
My dad and brother
race back to the house to get
a blanket and sled
Day 10:
Mom and I stay to
watch over our new-found friend,
the sky turning dark
Day 11:
Before I get scared,
I hear the bells and see the
horse-drawn sled arrive
Day 12:
We load Blitzen up
and cover him in blankets,
heading back for home.
Day 13:
We drive to the barn,
carefully leading Blitzen
into a warm stall.
Day 14:
The next morning, my
brother and I run to see
Blitzen in his stall
Day 15:
We enter the barn.
I was worried but he’s there,
it really happened!
Day 16:
Mom brought her vet bag
last night as she and Dad spent
the night with Blitzen.
Day 17:
My brother and I
feed Blitzen carrot sticks and
candy canes. Yum! Yum!
Day 18:
Blitzen looks better
with a bandage on his leg,
nestled in the hay.
Day 19:
Dad says Blitzen will
be ready to fly in a
few days with Santa.
Day 20:
We play with Blitzen
in the barn yard as he heals,
chasing after him.
Day 21:
Then Christmas Eve, we
hear the sound of sleigh bells and
hooves in the front yard.
Day 22:
Rushing outside, we
see a gleaming red sleigh and
the other reindeer.
Day 23:
And there stands Santa
with a twinkle in his eye
and a card in hand.
Day 24:
We hug Blitzen as
he goes to join the others
before they fly off.
Day 25:
The card reads “Blitzen
will be back next year so have
a Merry Christmas!”
